Area Colleges
ICN Sites
O’Brien County has several outstanding public and
private educational opportunities for its young people. The
county is divided into the three public school districts of:
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, Sheldon Community, and South O’Brien.
For specific information about each of our school districts
and private schools, and a map of the district boundaries
within the county, click on School Districts above.
We are also fortunate to have several institutions
of higher learning in the area. Northwest Iowa Community
College (NCC) in Sheldon offers 25 vocational/technical
programs in addition to arts and science college transfer
courses. NCC also presents many continuing education classes
and provides numerous services to the area. Dordt College in
Sioux Center and Northwestern College in Orange City are both
within short commutes of O’Brien County. Buena Vista
University, Briar Cliff College, Morningside College and Iowa
Lakes Community College are all within 1 hour of O’Brien
